Alrighty I"v been playing for about four years now and completely self taught , about two years ago I got into a band called Meshuggah. Now these guys got me thinking time signatures but I have no Idea how to read them. So I as how do I read time signatures

top number is number of beats

bottom number is length of beat

BASICALLY. This isn't really true, but it's the easiest way to say it without a bunch of exceptions.

the number on top is the number of notes, the number on the bottom is value of the note on top.

4/4 4 quarter notes
3/4 3 quarter notes. It's a little more complex than that, but this is good enough.

But I've analyzed the songs like that myself, I'm full of ****. Yeah and learn about time signatures and stuff...yeahhhh



Not to mention the fact that meshuggah use polyrythms, so you gotta be careful with which part of the drumming you time to
