Ok so my amp has some problems - basically the crunch and lead channels decided they don't want to work at normal volume. I got it repaired about a week ago and it was ok until today. Taking it again tomorrow.

Anyway, the problem seems to not have anything to do with the clean channel so I'm looking to buy a pedal for my dirt. My band plays pretty heavy stuff so I need a good amount of gain. You can check out a song through the link in my sig if you want an idea of the sound.

Some pedals that seem pretty good:
MXR Distortion III
EHX Metal Muff
Tech 21 Sansamp GT2
Fulltone GT500 or Full Drive 2 (from videos I think I like the Full Drive better)

I'll be trying out most of these tomorrow and whatever else I can find. Any opinions on these and/or suggestions? Budget is around $200 I guess. Can be a little higher maybe $250 max.
I have a huge fear if rays.

For metal? Maxon OD808 and a graphic eq to adjust your clean channel.
"Buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo."

Thanks for MM opinion. I've been going by videos for the past couple hours so yeah...

Technically I guess I'm the lead guitarist but we switch off a lot. Usually depends what part the other guitarist can play and sing at the same time easiest.

So a pedal like the Fulltone's with a built in boost would be great, but I can buy a boost pedal no problem.

I don't how heavy "pretty heavy" is but i have a Boss MegaDistortion (MD-2 i think is the product name?) and it's good enough for me for heavy metal. You can get some really great crunch with it. It's pretty standard controls and everything except for it has a kind of "bass presence" knob too which is kinda cool. It's also pretty reasonably priced.

Coffin Case BDFX-1 Blood Drive Distortion Pedal

That peice of crap is a cheap fizzy overdrive at best. Very low gain, very ugly sounding.

I am not inclined to trust a pedal from a company that specialises in making guitar cases.

The Keeley modded Boss pedals aren't too bad either.

Even the MT-2 doesn't sound like a tin of bees after the Keeley mod.

Is it possible to send my MT-2 to Keeley to get it modded? I know its possible over in the USA but on his european website i see no option.

Tonebone hot british tube distortion. I have not tried many distortion pedals, but a tried my friends tonebone and it blew me away. Tons of great features. amazing tone. Can get you a truly gorgeous and unique metal, hardcore, hard rock, grunge, or really great tone for all higher gain music. It really will make almost any amp sound like a Marshall all tube stack.

I'm skeptical on the Keeley mod. I actually have a Metal Zone I bought maybe 4 years ago. I was playing a Fulltone GT-500 today and I really liked it. I'm just holding off so I can go to a couple more places tomorrow to see what I can find.
