I prefer POD farm myself, with Guitar Rig 3 coming in second. I also like Revalver.

Some free VST plugins are better than what those bundles have to offer though. Google 8505 and SoloC for example.

I have gotten by far the most realistic sounds out of Amplitube.

To use VST plug ins you need another peice of software to do the recording through the VST.

http://www.reaper.fm/

That is an absolutely amazing, cheap (free unlimited demo) audio production software. Easy to use, works amazingly well, lots of features. Just set up your VSTs in there and you'll be good to go.

I really really like Amplitube or Guitar Rig for clean and lead sounds...but I had yet to get a good metal rhythm sound out of them...until I found Revalver...

So now, if im recording silently...AKA not the randall.... I use Revalver for rhythm and GR3 or Amplitube 2 for leads and cleans.

EDIT:

Skudmunk, the Reaper evaluation is not unlimited. If you do not purchase a license within 30 days, you are stealing it....it says so in the documentation.
I've bought, sold, and traded more gear than I care to admit.

cool! the reaper's cool for VTS! but UG.... I dont know why but guitar rig and pod farm go right, but Amplitube 2 has a sightly delay on sound :S i pick a note but it sounds a second later, is this normal?

Check this thread: https://www.ultimate-guitar.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1131250&page=1&pp=20

Impulses REALLY improve your tone. I seriously think they make it sound more realistic. God check my profile for a crappy example (Revalver with a stock preset, thus the "hiss" in the recording).

Also, +1 for Reaper. 8505. I also like Amplitube Maybe I should look more into Revalver.
