I haven't had time to photograph this one as much as the last one, but nothing too interesting has gone down yet.

This one has a 3 piece flame maple neck with a birdseye fretboard. The body is one piece mahogony with a 5/8" flame maple top that is going to get a deep carve.

It is going to get an EMG 81W and 89, with a Tonepros Tuneomatic / stringthru.

Transparent green finish.

I hope to finish this one over the next couple of weeks.

Beautiful, as usual. Do you put any finish on the maple fretboard or do you just sand it to a really high grit?

That neck is GORGEOUS. My build just has a plain ol' maple neck and ebony fingerboard

Right now it's just sanded pretty finely. It will eventually get some finish put on.

That is some mighty fine wood. My absolute favourite fretboard/inlay combo! Green abalone on birdseye maple, yes?

I can't wait to see how this turns out, keep us posted!

Gotta tell you, that flame looks ****ing hot (... I know ...). That neck is so damn fine. I love this. And in green?! Holy ****. This is gonna be sexy. Besides the 3x3 headstock, this would be my dream guitar. Good pups. What kind of green are you going for? You should make the back of the neck green too.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't Flame Maple/Birdseye maple warp easily? (or just easier than regular maple?)
Quote by satchgear
I tried it out in store.

Great neck, nice n light, good tuning stability. Overall a good guitar. I didn't but it cause I generally only buy guitars over a grand now.

Wow, this is the first time I've actually though birdseye maple is sexy, not cause of the good figuring but because of the binding. Very nice.
Looking forward to this one, as I usually am!

I keep a close eye on figured wood to make sure it doesn't freak out when I start cutting on it. Sometimes I discard boards that seem to be squirelly. But I think if you have a board that has stabilized, and you are paying attention to the grain direction and not just the figuring when selecting woods, it's not an issue.

However, I don't trust maple enough to make one piece necks from it, I always do laminated necks - which are considerably more stable.

Routing the cavity. It seems wrong for a control cavity to be this sexy:

Layout out the carve, should be getting started on that tomorrow:

WANT!
That, my good sir, has the best looking maple top I've ever seen.

PLEASE TELL ME IT'S GOING TO BE TRANS GREEN OR TRANS BLUE BURST!

It's trans green as said earlier.

Will, I really like the way this one is coming together. I wish I had access to those beautiful woods

I love that fingerboard, carve too.

Can you tell me. When you make the neck, do you round the corners (where it will sit in the neck pocket) if so, how do you round them to a consistent profile to fit the rounded corners of the pocket.

Or do you square off the pocket after routing?

If you get my drift?

I round the corners on the neck with a fine grit sanding disc. I just mark it with a template and sneak up on it real slow.
#37
Will, this is incredible. I'm dying to see you do something like an LP or King V shape.
Also, the fretboard binding is, again, just incredible.
#38
I don't think you'll be seeing any LP shaped builds anytime soon from Will. IIRC he doesn't like single cuts too much.
