Ok so I have linksys routers. Not sure of model. Their not wireless and have had them set up for about 2 years...no problem. But my computer recently required a reinstallation of windows and as of right now, I have no internet. I checked the cable connections and are correct as far as I can tell. I tried running the internet wizard but it says it can't detect any modems. I have my computer and ps3 both hooked up to the routers and the ps3 has internet but the computer doesn't. How do I get things up and running?

Thanks.

Find out what you're using first? Are you originally on wireless?

If not, then go to Start>Control Panel> Network Connections, find the model for what you're using and google the drivers.

If you are using wireless, you probably installed it yourself so look for the CD that came with the card.

if you've got an external hard drive or some way to transfer the files just put the drivers on there and transfer them over. had to do this a couple months ago. basically anything on that dell site posted above that says recommended you should download and install on your computer. video, audio and so on.

go to start > control panel > device manager...look for the thing called network adapters. google what you find under that dropdown and put the drivers on a cd/flash drive. insert this into your other computer and run the installer. should work then. I built this computer and that's how i did it when i reinstalled windows since i couldn't find the motherboard disc with the drivers on it.

I am using vista but i use the classic menu in control panel so i am pretty sure it'll look the same for you.

EDIT:If you open up the case and can find the brand name on the motherboard and maybe the model on it you could just look on their website and they should have the drivers available for download.

I reinstalled Windows once before, and couldn't get online.

I found a solution;
Install Service Pack 2.

You have to remember that a re-installation doesn't include any updates.

Download it on another computer and put on a USB stick or burn to a disk.

uhm.....did you install the network (LAN) drivers that came off your Dell CD? Most systems these days do not require network drivers. You just plug in the ethernet and go about on the internet. Routers DO NOT need drivers...I don't know where the hell you guys got that idea. Wireless NICs...yes, routers no.

I had a Dell back in the early 2000s and every time I reformatted I needed to install the network driver off the Dell CD. That's what Dell gets for using some completely random network chipset I guess...
