Okay so since my lead guitarist left i've had to take up his position 'til we find a replacement but when ever i start to solo you head a thud or chug as i pick the strings and its really annoying, can anyone help me with some advice on how to get rid of this most annoying noise.

Are you accidentally palm muting while you do leads? Is your bass eq'ed all the way up?

I do believe you just used Blink 182 and hard rock in the same sentence. It would seem you're rather confused.
I have a quote in my signature! And it makes fun of blink-182! I'm cool now!

It could be possible that when you pick, you're accidently hitting your pickups, causing this annoying sound...

Or you could be pressing your palm against strings, which is a bad habit you would have to overcome.
