What's a good distortion pedal for alternative and punk? I need something that can cover bands like Green Day, Pearl Jam, Nirvana, etc.

My budget's $150 and I use an Ibanez RG370DX.

Thank you.

Boss DS-2... a wonderful distortion pedal in my opinion or you can get an Ibanez Tubescreamer
#3
boss ds-1 should handle that range
its not crushing, but its a decent amount of gain

ts9 is the holy grail and all, but if you dont have a tube amp i hear its not the same
and its an overdrive, it may not push into alternative distortion ranges

overall, BOSS pedals are sort of lower end, if you want some real toanz id say get an overdrivr with a fair amount of gain on tap. theres 4 verisons of OCD, im sure you can find one you like.

although like i said before, Dano cool cats are great, i use the drive myself. instant AC/DC-Classic rawk toanz.

Currently, a crappy Line 6 15w. The onboard effects suck.

The TS9 is for tube amps, isn't it?

And the Big Muff is a fuzz pedal right?

Yes.

And I vote you get the DigiTech Hardwire Valve Distortion. Great pedal.

Cobain used a Boss DS-1, Pearl Jam used TS-9s and I think Billy Armstrong just uses Amp distortion (JCM800 I think, though he uses a load of amps so it could be any of them).

I'd say get the DS-1 if you have a solidstate and the TS-9 if you have a valve amp.

I don't think he used a stock DS-1, but a Keeley mod could sound a whole lot better then the stock one.

the Spider sounds like crap, and sounds even worse running pedals through it.

Buy my Bandit 112.

buy a used valve junior combo, they usually end up pretty cheap, even in theyre in new condition.

then get a tubescreamer and rock out.

Yeah, I know. The music store where I bought it has this 30 day customer satisfaction policy and I've only had it for 3 days, so I'm gonna swtich it out for a Peavey classic 30 everyone keeps talking about.

No thank you.

Ok, I've narrowed it down to the Danelectro and Hardwire. Thanks for the help.

The DS-2 is a really nice distortion and you can get tones from Frusciante to Cobain with it. I highly recommend it. You can find one on Ebay used for 50$. I also enjoy the Big Muff but its not as versatile as the DS-2. It's definitely a great pedal which was used by guitarists such as Corgan, White, and Frusciante. Definitely two different sounds thought.
