As far as I know, OD an amp is having it on dist channel and turning the volume up. And an OD pedal has some kinda functions that make the amp go into overdrive w/o having to increase the volume as much.
Am I correct? Are there anything else I should know?

What an Overdrive basically is, is driving the amp harder than it should go. It usually results in more gain, sustain, and occasionally volume.
