i LOVE my Ibanez SM7, and you can find them for cheap, but lots of people bad mouth it, but i like it. and for $30 it's a pretty decent deal. i like it's high gain, a boss pedal sounds awful and fake to me. might be the amps i've tried, but i've never liked the sounds i could get out of them.

I have a pocket metal muff cause the store I went to didn't have the regular one.
It isn't that bad, It's miles ahead of my DS-1 which I didn't think was that bad until I compared it up to the metal muff. I'm sure there are better ones out there, but I like it.

digitech metal master is what i use now after a few years of using boss metal zone. only thing is there isnt a gain knob on it like the metal zone. digitech hardwire TL-2 is pretty good too but costs a little more than the MM.

forgot who makes it, but the guitarist for my old band uses a dr. jekyll and mr. hyde. its red and shaped like a home plate in baseball. pretty versatile but he's never really used it for metal. im sure it could do the trick though.
