Searched but didn't find anything.

Is it really such a bad thing? I would think a message from the president saying that education is important could only be a positive thing?

Am I wrong?

Discuss.

obama is a good guy
i dont no why so many ppl trash him
so what if hes black
ACTUALY u guys need to realize something
OBAMAS NOT BLACK HES BROWN
man im brown and hes lighter than me
#6
It seems like it would be really good. What do the people who oppose the speech want him to do? Say that school sucks and kids should just drop out?
#8
People are only opposing it because of politics. I bet if McCain won and did this all the democrats would be pissed.
#9
It's just politics. If he sticks to "Stay in school, kids," then it's a bunch of crap over nothing.

If he tries to explain to K-12 kids how the education system needs to be fixed, then I could understand a little bit.

But at this point, the Republican party is pretty much just bitching at whatever they can as their hanging on the edge of the abyss.
#11
A lot of the controversy is about the fact that none of the parents were told and all. Personally I'd love for my (future) kids to hear the words of an orator of obama's caliber, even if his views on social policy are flawed.

As I understand it, there's supposed to be some sort of questionnaire to be taken by the kids after watching the speech, and one of the questions will be something to the effect of "In what way President Obama has inspired you?" Inspired? The man has done nothing inspiring for anyone. What do they expect kids to write? So far, he's succeeded in apologizing to the whole d@mn world for all the "evils" America has done (Not saying we're perfect, cuz we're not.), creating another terrorist scare in New York (Photos of Air Force One and the Statue of Liberty for his Christmas card, no less.), and dug us deeper into an economic pitfall. Oh yeah, he did manage to swat a fly as well. Biggest fight he ever won.
The sad part is, these kids don't know much about all that yet. Their minds are still pliable and able to be molded, and those in control of the government know that. If they can get the kids to see Obama as a hero or as someone to be served (as claimed by Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher's "I Pledge" commercial), a ready-made base of support will be available for them in a few years. It's essentially indoctrination of the youth.

P.S. - In case anyone calls me a racist, my JROTC instructor is black, and he's my favorite teacher. I don't give a flying f#ck what race Obama is.

Republicans think he's going to brainwash the kids with his left wing propoganda.

If McCain was President, democrats would think he's going to brainwash the kids with his right wing propoganda.

And that about sums up american politics.

I don't see what Republicans have against it. They're only suggesting that schools give out the questionnaires, not requiring it. And even so, he's encouraging them to think, not to glorify himself.

I'm kinda curious as to what he's going to say, even if it's the cliche "you are our future" stuff.

The only reason anyone gives a crap is because Glenn Beck and his little gang of whackjob wannabe revolutionaries screamed "Brainwashing!" Republican presidents did the same thing, one of them even ignored the events of 9/11 because he was too busy brainwashing kids in person.
#23
I think children should be learning things, as opposed to being forced to listen to this guy give an inspirational speech which most likely won't effect how they perform in school. If there parents want them to watch it, they can record it and let their children watch it at home.

I consider myself liberal on most issues, but I can't stand the fact that politicians are so glorified in our culture.
#24
"I'm going to be making a big speech to young people all across the country about the importance of education; about the importance of staying in school; how we want to improve our education system and why it’s so important for the country. So I hope everybody tunes in."

"some parents and conservatives are blasting the president, calling the speech an excuse to brainwash American children."

What the hell is wrong with that people?
I'm sick of the US politics system. Why the hell does it have to be either Republican or either Democrats? Why can't these guys accept that both Democrats and Republicans, both left and right, and both socialism and capitalism have its advantages and disadvantages, and the best thing you can do is to combine them?

Yes, Christian conservatives never tend to brainwash.

Also, this is some pretty vague brain washing. Oh ****! Now kids are being TOLD by their president to succeed in school, what a BRAINWASHING BULLY!

Sure, his questions made by his group imply things about him in a good way, duh. Do you think any politician doesn't want to make themselves look good? What the ****?

(I don't really like Obama. I really don't like people bitching about him over the craziest reasons.)

As a Republican, I see nothing wrong with the students hearing it. I just find the survey after it to be silly and pointless.

It's not though. He's trying to win back support since his approval rating keeps plummeting and if this helps it, it will be worth it.

The Republicans have a problem with it because he is telling kids to, "make a change," which goes against everything in the Conservative handbook (by definition, is against making changes; so a speech from the President to tell you to do those things is a no-no I guess...)

I don't quite understand what they're scared of, if they are really that concerned that their kids are going to be brainwashed why not sit in with them and watch it? or watch it yourself? Why would a president go out of his way to brainwash kids on a national level? Wouldn't that just give him away? This is ridiculous, I hope they show this during my chemistry class, chemistry is dumb.
