I just bought a new Fender Jazz bass last week, and everytime i play it the A-string tends to slip out of the nut. when i slap, when i normal pluck, it always manages to find its way out, sometimes even if i'm pressing down on a fret. any tips? should i hollow out the nut a little bit with a round file or...?
Is the hole in the nut too shallow?
possibly...i'm not too sure. would that make sense? the string just keeps jumping out of the notch in the nut.
You could try carefully try filing down the slot for the A string. If that doesn't work it's fairly easy to find replacement nuts for a stock Fender.
