I just purchased a Bugera 4X12 cabinet for my Carvin V3 amp head. The head is 100 watts and the cab is 200 watts, which (I think) means it should run well. When I turn on the amp and start playing, this weird thumping sound comes out from the amp. Its noticeable even when I play. Is this normal? I'm new to heads and cabinets (I've played with only combo amps up until this point).

Thanks in advance.

I use a speaker cable to connect the head to the cabinet.

Using the correct cables? You can't just use an instrument cable to connect the head and cab, you need a speaker cable.

ok sorry to hijack the thread but i never knew this!

im using 2x2foot planetwaves custom patch leads (running stereo out of my amp into my quad and never realised you needed "speaker cables" (stupid me) what will i notice if i go buy some? and how important is it to spend money on good ones.

Like here in Australia i payed $80au for the 2x2foot patch leads.

sorry for the hijack but yeah what differences will i notice?

edit: omg just done some quick research, ive been using just instrument cable between head and cab for like a year!

can't believe its so risky :S , gonna go buy some today/tomorrow
