Don't know where to put this, but lately I've stumbled upon a bunch of amateur metal covers of pop songs on youtube. Dont know how it started but it's pretty damn funny IMO, seeing cheesy pop songs being transformed into even more cheesy metal songs.

I kissed a girl - Katy Perry http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vil-s82_LM0
Can you feel the love tonight - elton john http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wj2QR0XuoLQ

Got anything similar to share?

cheers

I think it's funnier the other way around.

Someone should do a latin jazz version of I Cum Blood.

Something ridiculously similar has been done. I'll go try and find it.

TO THE INTERWEBS.

This.

Any jackoff with a guitar and basic knowledge of how to growl can instantly make a pop song into a "death metal" song. Takes mad skill to do it the other way.

Metal is a sub-genre of metalcore since metalcore is more popular therefore better.

I know for a fact that someone did a jazz cover of Set to Fail by Lamb of God. It actually sounds really good, but they left the vocal track the same, so its jazz with death metal vocals.

I don't get it. Is it supposed to be funny, or ironic or something?

I saw a video once of the Ninja Turtles playing Hammer Smashed Face.

That was awesome.

You're losing interest because you're simply not gay enough. Which leads me to believe you aren't cut out for metal.

Metal covers of pop songs is one of the most outdated jokes ever

Gamma Ray's version of It's A Sin is awesome though, simply because it's great musically
I’m not the man I used to be, I... I can’t go back to Arkham.

I... I should return to Arkham.

I'm surprised at how easily I Kissed a Girl fits into power metal. Or maybe I shouldn't be so surprised...

My favourite metal "parody" video.

It's like a Rush song.

The point of underground bands is their not popular or famous most of the time. Thus there is a good chance they suck.

No.

No.

No.

Well, song structure, the strong dominant chorus, an uplifting feeling etc. But other than that... no.

Come off it, practically every major power metal band is very poppy.

You guys should check out hellsongs on youtube. These guys do it the other way around, they take lyrics from classic metal songs and make an easy, feel-good pop tune out of it, with funny results.

Here goes an appetiser http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xecz3VdPixM

The idiot, dumbwitted comments to their videos make them even better.

I clicked around on some related links to the one in the first post and came across a group called Ten Masked Men. It was the highlight of my day. they cover (and very well) Michael Jackson, Coolio, Christina Aguilera, Britney Spears, Frank Sinatra, The Beach Boys, Justin Timberlake, Destiny's Child, Ricky Martin and more...
