Who does everyone think is the best country singers out today?

I'd Say Of the Newer Singers:
Jason Aldean or Chris Young

Then of the Older Ones:
Kenny Chesney (pre-beach stage) or Keith Urban

Older.... That's funny since they're still 90's musicians.

Kenny Chesney.... the man has permanent guyliner.... not cool
Keith Urban.... 'blegh

How about Hank, Charlie, or even Patsy Cline?

how is it that I'm not even a country fan and I still know more about it than you do?

You probably should never disscuss country music... ever again, considering the fact that what you just said is an embarassment to people that take country music seriously

Lucky or TPB opening up for III would be great.

I'm glad someone appreciates real country and not the **** that played on the radio

I LOVE Taylor Swift, seen her live twice now, and I like a wide variety of new country. I'm not a fan of older singers except Hank and Hank Jr, Johnny Cash, the stuff everyone loves. For new country, I'm huge fans of Montgomery Gentry, Brad Paisley, Kenny Chesney, etc. Right now I'm in love with Red Light by David Nail

My favorite singer, however, is Jamey Johnson.

CMT isn't country. Calling Taylor Swift country would be like calling Fall Out Boy punk it's just isn't.
#15
The definitions of many musical genre 's has changed over the years. R + B, Jazz, Rock + Roll. Music evolves over time. Just because an ACDC song doesn't have a Chuck Berry riff in it does not mean it isn't Rock + Roll. I find *most* contemporary "Country and Western" acts are more parody than traditional.

yeah, her music sounds great, if your into all that soulless pop country sh1t that Nashville shoves down your throat, she gets played on all the top 40 stations around here... and i dont think she sounds as country as...

That honestly depends what you preserve as country and where you're looking for it. If you turn on CMT yeah she sounds like everyone else. The problem is is that isn't country music. It's bad pop rock made in Nasvhille so they call it country. It's also targeted at a demographic a urban late teen to middle aged soccer mom. Waylon said it best when he said country is a feeling it isn't a sound. It's lost it's soul and now abides by a formula. It's nothing knew Trashville's been pulling this **** since Elvis came right after ol Hank died. They dropped fiddles and steels to add orchestras and lush arrangements. Nashville doesn't make country music. They make whatever the hell is going to get them money. You have to really listen to Hank Williams, Lefty Frizzell, Jimmie Rodgers, etc to truly understand why someone like Taylor Swift or Toby Keith just isn't country. Go ahead give ol Hank a listen and you WILL understand try Ralph Stanley singing something while you're at it.

voice wise or song writing?

Not my favorite artist, but they got my respect.
Voice-brooks and dun(never figured out which one was which). He just sings Neon Moon so well.

Song Writing-George Jones, but really it could go many different people.

I remember watching some interview with Hank Jr and he was talking about how they added strings to Hank Sr's music sometime in the early 80s and releasing it like that. The first thing I thought was "Well, do you know why Hank didn't put strings in the songs when they were first recorded... its because they dont belong there" People who don't know sh*t about country music need to stop f*cking with it...

Garth Brooks is my favorite artist out of any genre, but Kenny Chesney, George Strait, Tim McGraw, Brad Paisley, Alan Jackson, and Randy Travis are among my country favorites.

thanks, i know

Actually im not arrogant. And i know you like Taylor Swift, thats great. I dont actually have a problem with her music. The problem is that she and Nashville are trying to pass her off as a country musician, I have a great deal of respect for true country music and musicians such as Patsy Cline, Ernest Tubb, Webb Pierce, Waylon Jennings, Lorrette Lynn and Merle Haggard, and find it disrectful when people like Toby Keith, Kenny Chesney and Carrie Underwood are referred to as country. Maybe if she just called herself a pop musician( which i hate to tell you sweetheart, but thats what she is) i wouldnt have a problem with it....

Also, i hate to tell you, but im actually a pretty nice guy...

I don't want to argue with you. Judging by the responsible and mature way you responded to my irrestponsible outburst the other day, you certainly are the bigger person. I'm sorry for the way I acted, and I take back all the harsh things I said to you. I was wrong.

Millions of fans DO NOT equal talent. If that were true Britney Spears, Achy breaky Heart Jr., and The Disney Brothers would be more talented than anyone since the Beatles. What it does mean is crossover appeal and good marketing. Miss Swift is great at what she does. Writes these little pop princess songs and markets the shit out of herself. What she does is POP music not country music. I would have 0 problem with her if people didn't claim her to be country.

Really never got the whole "Alt Country" thing. It never really sounded very country to me.

Oh and too the dude who said his favorite song writer is George Jones. You are aware the he doesn't really write any of the songs he records?

its a guilty pleasure, and i count it more as folk than country.
and yeah, i saw the George Jones as best song write thing, i laughed my ass off.
Especially considering he also thinks the guy from brooks and Dunn is a better singer than the possum

I only care for the Possum's old shit. Nothing really after he left Mercury. I just don't care for most of the music that surrounds his voice. I'd take Haggard over Jones any day.
