I'm not sure that I understand the point of it. What would the two volumes be for? Each half of the split coil?

You'd need to rewire the actual pickup into two seperate pups to do that

Care to share with us the reasoning behind such an idea? I'm curious.

Possible, yes. But there are a couple of ways to do it. The most common way would be to wire like a Jazz. But that puts the pickups in parallel. Stock wiring on a Precision is series.

Another way to do it would be to have the pickups in series and wire each volume to shunt it's pickup.

imho, the preferred way would be to wire the pickups in series with a balance control and volume pot.

the single tone control is simple enough with any of those methods.

my friend is just starting out and he bought a pbass but its previous owner put a new input jack on the bottom of the body instead of on the pickguard. and he put in a new volume pot in but its not wired to anything. so im gonna try to spit the pickups and have two volume controls, one for each pickup, and then a tone control. its more of just for fun, but if i mess up i can always take it to my local shop.

im kind of a noob at this stuff so im trying to learn.

any help is much appreciated

Interesting idea... but its also a pretty useless one.

I'd just leave it mate.

Perhaps get a kill/toggle switch to fill the hole? I can't really see two volumes on what is essentially a single pickup having it's uses.

If you really want to mod your bass, add a J pup to the bridge and wire it to the second volume knob.

or alternatively, you could add an S1 switch?
