i was listening to motorhead and ace of spades came on and i was wondering, did the card 'ace of spades' have significance before the song? because everyone knows it now because of motorhead, but i was wondering did it have special significance before the song? if so what?

its been the symbol for many biker gangs and groups for many years.

70s bikers before motorhead were around used to have the solitary spades symbol on the jackets.

if anything, motorhead took a popular alternative culture symbol and ran with it.

Overkill is a better album, though.

It held significance long before motor head even existed. Its commonly used as a metaphor for really good, skilled, or having a clever trick.

The Ace of Spades is associated with death. I have no idea why.

Just while we're at this subject. Did people know what pyramids were before radiohead's song "Pyramid song"? Because everyone knows it's because of radiohead people know what pyramids are. Or did people know what the pyramids were before the radiohead song?

I don't listen to Radiohead. What's a "song"?

Isn't the 'dead man's hand' something like the Ace of Spades and a pair of sevens? Something like I think, some old story about someone getting shot/stabbed for cheating at poker.

Aces and eights are said to be the 'Dead Man's Hand' and gets its name from the legend of it being the five-card-draw hand held by Wild Bill Hickok at the time of his murder, but the Ace of Spades itself is also known as the "death card".

1. put up all over vietnam during the conflict and the US presence there.

2. worn by bikers in the UK and parts of the USA during the 70s/80s.

3. the supposed 'best card' in a 52-card deck, eventhough it shares the same svalue as the other 3 aces, it holds high grounf by usually baring the companies name and the best decoration (I.e Bicycle Poker Cards)

4. the ace preferred by magicians and illusionist's, due to its usually superior decoration and its ability to be recognised, when put up against any of the other 3 aces.

also, spades is the only suit who's symbol resembles a weapon (i.e its point on top)

They hold same value in poker. The suits values go alphabetically and thats pretty much only used when people are drawing to see who deals first.
