Hey guys, so ive been playing my epi lp alot lately. Its not quilted or flame, its just a plain cherryburst finish. Ive noticed that i can start to see the grain of the wood alot more than i could when i first bought it. Is this a "faded finish"? and is that a good thing or a bad thing ?

EDIT: Pics eventually, cant do it now

Is this what a "faded" finish is?

The name Gibson gives its shitty finish so people will think it's something good.

A guitar with a faded finish is a guitar that has less layers of clearcoat than a normal guitar, Hence why the gibson faded's are cheaper. They're still great guitars, I play my 60's neck faded honeyburst over my custom any day. I did refinish the top on it though.

But yeah, it's basically just used as a way to make "thinner finish" sound good.

Srsly.

A faded finish is one that looks like the clear coat has been removed, leaving you with a satin finished guitar that looks "old"

You CAN play anything with anything....but some guitars sound right for some things, and not for others. Single coils sound retarded for metal, though those who are apeshit about harpsichord probably beg to differ.
