so,
ive just gotten into this genre.
and i was wondering if anyone had any things i should learn to get down the basics.
like, the best way i can describe what im looking for is.
blues use alot of pentatonic. most rock does.
same chord progressions and whatnot.
is thre anything like this that can cover most progmetal?
i mean things like the human abstract, there what im listening to alot of right now.

the point of any progressive genre is to go where no other band has gone before, so there is no golden rule. Each rule you follow makes you less prog

prog takes certain elements from jazz so use of the modes is very common in prog solos.
