when movies have "foreign" languages spoken in them, that sound nothing like the langauge they are supposed to portray, or make no sense at all?

Movies that come to mind are the 1990 Captain America and Die Hard 2 movies (the German makes no sense whatsoever).

go!

And that Psych episode where the 'possessed' chick is supposed to be speaking german but ISN'T.

Try watching Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon with no subtitles and not understanding Mandarin Chinese then having to decipher the script for a grade.

My Chinese teacher was awesome, but I hate that movie now. And I STILL don't know Chinese.

Yes this does hack me off, especially as it doesn't cost that much for a bloody translator.

The Passion Of The Christ is one of them. The Latin in it is terrible.

I don't let such shallow and pedantic details ruin movies for me.

it's not pedantic when you speak fluid german, english and partially spanish and notice that in many movies, they don't speak a word of the language they're trying to portray.

The whole watching a dude get whipped around for an hour was pretty terrible aswell.

Sort of related, but I find it funny in movies, something like WW2, where they have a scene with the Americans or whatever speaking perfect english, then it goes to the Germans and there still speaking english, but with a (usually crappy) german accent.

I mean I can see why, makes it more appealing to mass audiences (well at least in english countries), but it's still funny.

anyway, it doesnt really bother me if theyre actually speaking the language or not.

i think its more annoying in video games when they speak english with the accent of their race instead of speaking the language itself.

This is something that gets me too. In the case of the Passion, the Latin pronounciation is TERRIBLE! As well as the actual Latin being terrible grammar-wise.
#25
I've noticed it in a few movies where they are supposed to be speaking spanish, but I never realized that it happens so often.

Yes the Latin was horrible. Since it was Aramaic.

What actually pisses me off is when the subtitles leave out a lot of what the people are really saying. Like idk, I can't think of a good example, but some war movies I've seen leave out a lot of the flavor of what Germans and Italians are saying (I wouldn't know if French and Russians have a lot of flavor words because I can't read/listen those languages). In one movie (ughhh seriously can't remember the title) what the German officer was saying was very much tonally different from what the subtitle read.

Lord Gold probes you publicly and makes your pussy wet.

I found it weirder in the battle of the bulge (think thats the movie I'm thinking of), where the German commanders where speaking perfect english with the standard, hard American accents.

There was also Latin in it, spoken by the soldiers.

In the Godfather the english subtitles are really off from what they're actually saying in italian

I'm not exactly fluent in other languages so i tend not to notice.

However, badly done English accents really fuck me off because they always speak in a ridiculously posh accent that ive never heard anyone in England ever speak (except the Queen).

Eh, grammar doesn't bother me as much unless it's horrible. But when it's just random words in whatever language they're trying to portray I sit there like that picture of Captain Picard that has WTF is this ****? captioned over it. Pronunciation bothers me as well. I speak relatively decent German, some Spanish and Latin so I've got 3 I can get angry over. I try to ignore it though if the movie is good.

I could be watching Inglourious Basterds, and Hitler could shout out "DIE FREIGEN HEISCHSPIEL!" and I'd think it was legit German.

ehh that movie was ok but the german IMO sounded botched but what ever
