There's a thread for Valveking mods already, take a look around there.

Good lord, no.
That's fine for settings and general info. But tech info there is just wrong.

Absolutely NOT.

1 - ValveKings have fixed bias, but it's non-adjustable.

2 - Does that mean you can swap tubes without biasing like in a cathode biased amp? NO.

3 - Use ONLY 6L6s, unless you have a tech modify the amp to provide adjustable bias.

4 - Do NOT use EL34s in a VK. Even if you have the amp modified for adjustable bias, there is still a huge problem. The EL34 heaters require 1.3A instead of the 0.9A used by 6L6s. Since the heaters are in series, this will wreak havoc with the heater voltages applied to the preamp tubes.

5 - What voltage will the preamp tubes see, if I use EL34s? 8 Volts on the 100w VK. Not quite as bad on the 50w, but still, just DON'T. Overvoltage on the heaters will shorten the life. And if one of the preamp heaters burns out, more will follow in short order.
