WOW that's a TON of bass! Dial on 5 and graphic EQ'd with lots of low-end is crazy on a Mesa! Isn't that flabby?

/\

The Mesa Caliber series is probably the tighest and most unflabby Mesa series in existence. I can max out the bass on my DC and play in Drop A# and it's not flabby or loose at all, just so long as you don't have the gain maxed out.

The amp looks great Ryan! However, I think you're in serious need of an old Marshall cab to fully appreciate the Caliber experience.

I can't imagine anything worse than shagging to Mark Knopfler.

Maybe shagging Mark Knopfler, but that's about it.

It sounds amazing!
The Clean and Drive are technically one channel with a gain milking circuit so I might get another amp for cleans, maybe a solid state fender Red knob.
#16
Ryan, play with the settings, I've seen guys get wonderfully crips cleans (like a Fender Super Reverb), but have crunchy Mesa mesa gain with the right EQ settings. Look at youtube for some guidance. Honestly, my EQ isn't that much different from my clean channel and my dirty channel: treble around 2/3, mids at 4/5, bass at 6/7, presence around 7, gain at 3, and channel volume at 4, with the output (master) at 3.5. I have my GEQ on for the lead channel in a slightly midrange boosted V. I think you can see the EQ on my Mesa in the picture of my Jaguar in my profile.

Also, lower output pickups really make the most out of the amp; it sounds terrible with EMGs, but with the single coil pickups in my Jaguar, or the PAF style humbuckers in my Spitfire and a few hollowbodies i've used, it can do everything from crunchy bassman tones to metal.

Edit: btw, it took me 4 months to figure out the sweet spot on my Mesa....

HAPPY KNOB TURNING!!!

I need Jazzy cleans ala Cynic and Quite a hefty amount of gain somewhere tonally around the sound of Tool.

EDIT: I might get this vintage amp I found on craigslist selling for $100.
Its a low watt tube amp that looks rather nice.
I might try it out.

Maxon OD808 or an Ibanez TS-9 would give you the extra compression/gain needed for that, although honestly with humbuckers I'm in the Tool ballpark already with the settings I listed earlier. You're using your Ibanez RG, right? Does it still have the stock pickups? If it does, change them pronto; with a good set of pickups you should be able to get what you want with just one amp.

I use the RG, Strat, and my Musicman.
The RG has a swapped bridge to a Dimarzio super distorton.
I can gt a Tool High Gain sound out of this amplifier easily.
I can get Cynic cleans out of it easily too.
Just not with the same settings

Lol, Cynic cleans are actually far from clean.

Ehh, my friend has one of those, I was never a fan of it, I don't like 1-channel amps, I'd much rather have my GX130c, but HNAD anyways, I'm sure I just didn't have enough time to tweak it, my friend just had a V on the GEQ D:

hmm....definitely look into a tubescreamer style pedal to boost your lead channel than so that you don't need to sacrifice your clean tone.

HNAD, I always like the DC series, they seem to be some what of a bridge between the older Mark series, and the more modern Mesas. Great find at a great price, I would buy them all day long for that price!!
