I finally, FINALLY got rid of my PRS, trading it for this beauty.

2008 Gibson Les Paul Standard Traditional Plus. Upgraded with Graphtech nut and saddles, 2006 Lollar Imperial Pickups, and RS superpots. Action was a smidge too low when the previous owner gave it to me, so I had to raise it a bit. It also needs heavier strings pronto (tens or elevens at least), but it's a fantastic playing and sounding axe otherwise.

I'm not normally a Les Paul guy - I find they just lack balls. No such issue with this one. The Lollars are just a hair on the weak side, but nothing I can't mitigate.

Shitty cell phone pics - I'll have more when I find my camera.

That's a flame top, despite how quilty it may look. It's also browner than that in person.

niiice. i dont really care for LP's usually but i can appreciate a sick guitar when i see one. how much did you pay for the graphtech nut? and how much total?

I wouldn't know - I got this in a trade for my old PRS. (Which was a beyond excellent guitar; I just wanted something different.) All the upgrades were already present when I got it.

Have both a Les Paul and PRS and always prefer the PRS over the Les Paul. Nice looking guitar. Happy NGD!

Turns out I got slightly gyped. The hole for the screw at the neck strap peg was stripped. I'm pretty pissed at the mo, having to glue it in and all.

If you had lived with that PRS for two years as I have, you'd likely think differently. For some reason (not to put anyone down - I can see you own a no doubt excellent Custom 22) I find that most of the people who go around telling people that PRS is the greatest fucking shit ever fuck yeah are people who don't own one. Owning one tends to open one's eyes.

Are they good guitars? Oh yeah. Hell yeah. But does a good PRS have some huge advantage (other than completely preferential things - pickups, scale, finsh) than a good Gibson or a top-of-the-line Fender? Not particularly, no.

Anyway, I've fixed the issue I had with the strap button. I think I have a keeper. These Lollar Imperials are groovy, but they're a little too weak for me; I'll likely change them sometime down the line.

Thanks for all the kind words - still lookin' for that camera. I may just use my dad's crazy-awesome Nikon tomorrow.

Joy Division much?

anyway @threadstarter, nice guitar - there's a '90s historic R8 model in a shop near me that looks just like that.. it's beautiful, feels fantastic, and has a distinctively reedy flavour to what is otherwise the classic les paul tone.. i'd love to own it as i bet i'll never find another one that sounds quite like that... but it costs £4000..
I like analogue Solid State amps that make no effort to be "tube-like", and I'm proud of it...

...A little too proud, to be honest.

Very nice LP you definitely got the better end of the deal. The stripped strap button hole is pretty common and an easy fix that doesn't hurt the value of a guitar.

I've almost lived with my CU22 for two years now and I've come to the conclusion that a PRS, for me at least, is a guitar that is never going to be sold. I may trade out other guitars for new ones in the future but it's hard to beat the quality and playability of a PRS.

I can understand that what you're saying and that you like the feel of the LP better. But last time I compared a PRS to a LP, the LP felt extremely cheap.

Anyone who replaces a set of Lollar Imperials with ****ty active pickups on a les paul needs a swift kick in the balls.

To the TS: if you find the Lollars to be a little bit too weak but want to keep that classic les paul tone, I'd look at some of the following pickups that would really be up your alley, Wolfetone Marshallhead or WCR Godwood. Both are good for a fatter, bigger sound than the Lollars which might be a little thin sounding.

And as to the PRS SC vs. LP thing... a PRS SC doesn't sound like a les paul, and anyone who has played the two side by side will tell you that they don't sound the same. So it's really not that unheard of that some people want a les paul sound. PRSs are extremely versatile but when you want that flutey, earthy les paul tone, you just need a les paul.

Having had it for two months, I've decided: fuck it. I'm getting a custom job. So I'm selling this already.

But, just some guitar porn before it goes. I never got around to posting these earlier, but here ya go. Warning, big mutha'uckin' pichers. So big I'm just posting them as links.

I like the new pics, What a beauty. I have seen flame tops like that. I still think it's more like a quilt top. I still think you got the better end of the deal as far as the stripped strap button hole that is no big deal some wood glue a a couple round tooth picks will fix it right up. I can't believe people still get upset about that?

Nice set o pics at the end. The flash still washes out some of the detail of the grain. Try taking a pic out side with the sun just overhead that really can bring out the grain. I still think it looks more like quilt but one of my friends sitting here calls it tiger eye. I guess it has something to do with the angle they slice the wood.

I would - but it's been cloudy down south, where I am. And I frankly think I'll have it sold before the weather clears up.

^And Gibson actually called this a Iced Tea finish in this thing. I thought it was more of a Tobacco or Desert Burst myself, too. But it's definitel not cherry. My brother's is cherry, and this is way too brown for that - the pichers are not completely accurate.

I agree normally, but I may just go back to 10-52 - keep the easiness of the trebles, lose the difficulty of the basses.
