I was listening to Blink 182 today (if you hate them, i don't care, don't try.) and i thought to myself that they're definitively the band that most represents and defines my young life. F-ing around and not caring and rocking out and stuff. So my pick would be them.

But what do you guys think?

What bands 'define' your life? or our generation (i'm 18, people born in the late 80s/90s and such).

If you have nothing else to say, throw in some shooped pictures of kai.

If you let yourself be defined by a band, or a genre then you have low self-esteem. You can like a specific band or genre, but being DEFINED by it?! Oh COME ON!

Let me get this straight. You're asking a bunch of people who are sitting at their computers, likely due to boredom, what to do for fun.

Bands that define my youth certianly don't define my generation.

In fact, while I think there were bands that defined past generations, currently there's so much variety in music that there is no unified generation and culture.

Think about it: In the 60's, there were Hippies. Not everyone was a hippy, but there were a lot of them. They defined the culture for that generation, or at least the way we remember it.

What kind of culture does our generation have? Chavs and Wiggers? I'd say our generation is defined by the internet. We're the first generation to have it, and it affects all our lives, regardless of what kind of music we listen to. We will be remembered as the internet generation.

blink 182 may define you, but not our entire generation (im 18 as well). I really can't stand blink 182 or the whole punk genre. No band can define a generation because no entire generation will agree on everything.

although, if there were a band that could define an entire generation they would be so ungodly rich.

hmm... i'd be guessing blink is a pretty huge part...together with being the first generation to hear "dead nirvana", i mean, i wasnt as musically conscious about things when i was 6, so i only know nirvana from the time Cobain is dead. This changed perception on the entire grunge movement...
Wanted to play Bass, but then developed conscious thought...

If a band were to define a generation that would suggest they reflect/represent a uniform mentality that is shared amongst the generation.

In short, no.

Blink are a terrible band. I would not want them defining this generation...

Hardly. The number of boy bands that existed could easily define the 90's as much as Nirvana.

What! Where's the Beatles? Pink Floyd? Stones? Where are the boybands that defined early '00 pop culture?

I also dislike your question so i'll answer what band has defined me.

Biffy Clyro; the first band that introduced me to music that wasn't conventional. Pity their new songs and Puzzle are crap. They're what brought me to Fall of Troy and then bands like Dream Theater, Opeth etc
