you need to tell us what you will be doing with the amp, gigging or just home use. you need to give us a bit more information. and people will reply, thats what threads are for. if you want people to pick give more info, otherwise that splawn is gonna win.

I did vote...

And like what Jof said, we need more info.

well things like where you will be playing (home, in a band), what upgrades you would be doing to the VK, what gear you currently have, which VK it is (head and cab or combo), stuff like that. also, maybe what kind of metal, because if its stuff like sabbath or maiden, thats a huge difference from the modern uber-high gain stuff.

and ill take the other option off now

You got some help in the Valveking thread too but:

Budget?
Genres?
New or Used?
Home or Gig?
Closest City?
Current Gear?

answer those and we will be more effective in helping you....otherwise we will all be throwing darts and wasting our time and your time.

Not gigging? HT-5 is the blatantly obvious choice.

New or Used? Both
Home or Gig? Home

Current Gear? Line 6 spider 3 15 watt

Well, these may not all be perfect for you and some are over your budget but you get the idea. They are worth checking out. I don't mean to confuse your selection process either but you can often get more amp for your money by looking at used gear.

I have not played the HT-5 yet but I hear good things. I own a Valveking and can tell you they sound a lot better after a speaker change. Good luck in your quest and keep your eyes peeled to craigslist.

The only thing that the HT-5 can't do flawlessly is Metal. You can get about Sabbath-type gain out of it at best. The HT-5 would most likely be the best choice for you given the genres you play. And just invest into an OD pedal if you start to play more metal or just want to get some different sounds out of it.
