It slows down your computer slightly, but different softwares slow down computers in different ways ect.

If you need a good anti-virus I suggest Comodo internet security (free version)

+ its always suggested to have an antivirus on your system

I use Avast and it seems to not slow my PC down too much and Avast is pretty darn good also.
Yeah, now you're gonna die wearing that stupid little hat. How does it feel?

Some, like McAfee and Norton do slow PCs down a little. The well-known ones also attract virus writers to find ways of getting through their security (famously Sircam virus which wiped the hard disk if you attacked it with Norton's special Sircam tool)
I use Eset Nod32 which is free for a limited period of 10,000 years, I think
I pick up my guitar and play

Without antivirus software will the viruses slow your computer down anyway.

So you might aswell install antivirus software.

When I was using windows, I used Kaspersky. Doesn't affect performance, and not a thing ever got through it. But, I'm using Linux now, so don't really need an AV.

It'll stop your computer from catching e-STIs.

I used to use AVG, I use the one provided by my university at the moment.
