Hi,

I have an old strat copy, it wasn't bad but sounded ****. I since replaced it but still have it knocking around. I hated things like the strings breaking all the time and it going out of tune. I have a bit of cash and wondered what I could do with it.

New pickups?
New Tuners/Bridge?

I don't want to spend a fortune but I see all these wicked projects people have and think it may be cool to try something like that. I live in the UK so anyone with advice would be really helpful about where to get decent parts and stuff. I want it I guess to just be for metal and rock so one pickup might be fine.

Thanks for any help in advance

The user Skeet UK has several discount deals off of many good UK sites including (I quote from his signature): WD Music, ABM, and AllParts UK.
As to what those discounts are, I'd PM him.
What I'd do if I were you is replace the nut, definitely. If it has got a vibrato system, you may want to replace the saddles, and perhaps the whole unit. Tuners could be a plus, but won't matter as much as new nut and saddle. As far as pickups go, Iron Gear is great. Here's the site: http://www.irongear.co.uk/irongear_002.htm Great prices, great pickups.

How much money exactly do you have to spend?

Well I don't know to be honest I could spend hundred but I want really to give this a new lease of life on the cheap, i guess that doesn't help and makes me sound cheap

Nah, don't worry about it.
I say, graph-tech nut ( http://www.allparts.uk.com/online-shop/allparts-guitar-amp-parts/nuts-saddles/nuts/tusq-graphite-ebanol-nuts/graphite-nut-blank-oversized-p-4308.html ) Graph-tech saddles ( http://www.allparts.uk.com/online-shop/allparts-guitar-amp-parts/bridge-parts/saddles-for-strat/bridge-saddles-for-strat-rectangular-graphtech-3-p-3763.html Choose the original/tusq, not classic. Make sure to measure to make sure they're the right size), then Iron Gear Hot Slag ( http://www.irongear.co.uk/irongear_005.htm in bridge), and you should be set, and still be below £100.

Also, if you do PM Skeet UK, and ask how much the discount is through him, you might be able to get the Graph Tech Classics, which are better, and still be below £100.

EDIT: Also, about the nut. It's a blank nut, so you'd have to sand it and slot it to the appropriate size. If you aren't comfortable doing that, you can also take a look at the other nuts on the site and see which one has dimensions matching yours. MAKE SURE that they match.

Graphite (though not graph-tech) are available from axes r us, they're cheaper and pre-cut. I've used axs r us a few time - no problems yet.

New tuners would be good but pickups+tuners will take you over £100 for decent ones. Your broken strings are probibly down to the nut/saddles so upgrading those would be a very good idea.

Cheers dude.

Yup, WDMusic is the cheapest at the moment, depending on what you want.

Have a browse, or let me know what sort of things you are looking for and I will help you out if I can. Discount will be 20-25% depending on what you want.

The bridge on it appears screwed down and locks, is it that easy to just replace the saddles, how do I know what I am buying is better than what I already have?

Since its a crap Strat copy, most ANYTHING you buy will be better than what you have. :/ Also, Graph Tech has an incredible reputation and is used on most high end electrics, and IronGear is quite renowned among the few that have used them.
