I have read the Ultimate Gear Thread but I have a few more questions about modellings amps.
How often would I need to replace the tube or tubes in a modelling amp?
How much would a tech maybe charge to replace them?
How much of a improvement in tone would a Modelling amp be my SS Orange Crush?

1) years
2) you can do it yourself
3) it depends what amp you're talking about

1. I'd imagine not too often, seeing as how they aren't use as extensively used as regular tube amps, but I could be wrong.

2. Depends on where you go. If you go to a local store, they could do it for cheaper as compared to going to Guitar Center or Sam Ash. my local store replaced my tubes for $20, plus the cost of tubes. But then again, I have a true tube amp.

3. I'm not too familiar with Orange amps, but modeling amps have a lot of different tones to them, so it could have it outnumbered in amounts of tone, and some may or may not be better.

Just be sure that if you get one, it's not and MG or Spider. Vypyrs and Roland cubes are a lot better.

EDIT: Damn you WTF. Beating me to the punch and stealing my glory

I was looking mainly at the Vov VT30 and Peavy Vyper 30

I don't have to much experience with the VT30, but I've heard it's good.

I myself like the Vypyr, but I still think the Roland cubes sound better IMO.

from my experience, the VT30 is a great amp. i've only ever tried the lower wattage Spiders, so i can't say too much about them.

you shouldn't have to change tubes that often, and it will be a dramatic improvement over your crush.

How often could you say?
I play about 20 minutes-1 hour a day.

It's very relative
But you shouldn't have to change them before two years, and that's only for the Power Tubes, Preamp tubes can last about 10 years.

i think it's the other way around. you push your preamps tube more than your poweramp tubes, right? at least that's my reasoning.
