I was thinking,

I click around so many peoples links in their profiles to their band's websites and myspace pages and I occasionally I'll think, "Oh wow! Cool layout." until a random "IEDITEDTHISWITHXPROFILEEDITOR" icon appears over the whole page.

Also, I have definitely seen some awesome work with some webpages as well and have always been interested in exactly how it's done.

Seeing as this is the pit and it's designated for off topic discussion and there are plenty of avid computer and internet users here, I'm sure we could band together to share our knowledge of HTML in order to increase the awesomeness of myspace pages and band websites everywhere.

So, I guess I'll start by throwing down a few links about HTML and then you guys can jump in. If this whole thing is epic fail or against the rules, just tell me and I'll delete it.

Basic Guides To HTML

HTML Tutorial
This is one of the best I have found for a basic tutorial through HTML.

Basic HTML: Introduction
A really good webpage for people who have never worked with HTML in anyway

Myspace Editing

Myspace Code Stuff
This is my absolute favorite resource for myspace coding. A lot of guides and tutorials. It'll really help you with almost anything you want to do.

Div Overlay Tutorials
Some great resources for div overlays, something I still really can't understand.

Practice Sites and Hosting

Well that is what I have for now. Contribute! If this is stupid in anyway or in anyway against the rules, I apologize and I will delete it.

Thanks,

To start it off, I used to use a site as a base for html work, i think it was angel fire or something, but for some reason, I can't find it. googleing the name brings up a porn site. Are there any other good sites to use?

I'd be glad to contribute to this thread, but I don't think there's much demand for it.

Yeah. Probably not, but I guess we'll see.

Would you know anything about div overlays? I really don't understand the concept, but have seen the results and would really like to do something with it on my myspace page.

To parigod, what do you mean by base site?

I'm not sure what you mean by div overlays. Do you mean one div on top of another, or like an entire site laid out with divs through CSS, or what?

I don't know if this is the right thread to ask but here goes:

Does anyone know what is wrong with Facebook? I have no problem with any other websites on my computer, but every time I use Facebook it will work like normal for about 2 minutes then just stop working. I can look at the page I'm on but if I click anything nothing happens it will just sit there

It's got nothing to do with this thread. But I think that's a FB glitch, you should report it to them.

From what i remember, it was a site that would let me temporarily host my web designs and practice my HTML.

Edit: evidently , I'm completely retarded http://www.angelfire.lycos.com/

That looks like a pretty good site to use to practice HTML and test webdesigns.

Mind if I add it to the original post?

And SteveHouse, I'm not going to lie, I only know pretty much the basics +1 about HTML so I hardly even now what a div is. I've just seen on myspace pages that people make "Div Overlays" and it basically allows them to wipe the central area of the myspace clean and work from scratch so that they can add any content that they want to.

Oh. Well I know jack shit about modding MySpam. I don't touch it. A DIV is an element of your page that sort of functions like its own body region. You can customize it completely using CSS, from its location to its background image to what font size it uses. You can even use a bit of Javascript to make it visible or invisible. Pretty powerful stuff.

The div overlay trick is really only useful for Myspace. Create a div (<div id="name it here"></div> and make it a certain height and width to cover up the original profile. It basically creates a blank sheet that you can then add more divs and pictures to to be able to completely customize your profile.
