I have an incredibly picky taste when it comes to music, meaning I end up listening to only a handful of the bands that meet my requirements meaning I'm bored as all hell when I don't feel like listening to any of them.

I just feel like discovering a new band but my god, I hadn't even noticed that every single metal band nowadays is nothing but screaming and growling.

Can anyone suggest any good metal bands that do not scream? (very little screaming is tolerable, as long as they can actually sing as well) Oh and please, no power metal/high ass pitched singing. Would rather take some screaming any day of the week over that gay ****. And no weird ass genres either, if you're gonna suggest folk metal, please don't.

I'd firstly recommend you to the band forums, but now we're here. I thought Crack The Skye by Mastodon was a very good album. I loved it but you seem quite picky. Give it a go.

On the other hand. Listen to some B.B. King or something. Gotta love some ****ing blues.

Iron Maiden [Specifically Brave New World onwards as vocals never go too high. You may like it. I recommend buying 'A Matter of Life and Death'].

Or, Meshuggah

Symphony X. The newer stuff is quite good and the vocals are the perfect blend of melody and scream. And it's impossible to say enough about Michael Romeo.

Suggestions as to what you do like would be excellent help for all of us who are lining up to help you.

Anyway, if you don't like these bands, I suggest you leave the metal scene forever, because it doesn't get a whole lot better:

Whoa guys, im not exactly new to the metal scene. Iron Maiden, Metallica, Megadeth, Dream Theater, Mastodon, Machine Head, thats the kinda stuff Im used to hearing. But there doesn't seem to be any small time bands like them
#25
The guy wants to get INTO metal and asks for non screaming bands and you give him Mastodon, COB, and Meshuggah ?
You are going to scare him

Start with soft stuff like some Progressive, Heavy, and Power metal. That's a very good starting point. Refer to the bands that I posted in the first page.

I kinda get where you're coming from. I haven't been listening to that much metal within the past couple of years because I haven't found any groups (other than the ole standards) that have really impressed me. I'm with you, the growling **** sucks ass IMO. I still like listening to Savatage's stuff, and Circle II Circle's stuff is along the same line. You're getting some interesting replies though, so I'm going to check some of them out as well.

Just deal with the growling you big jesse.

Children of Bodom were the band that pulled me from the Iron Maiden crowd into the actual metal scene. I suggest you start with them.

Savatage. I have to recommend them in every thread like this.

Criss Oliva is probably the best metal guitarist I've ever heard.

maudlin of the Well?

This.

also, try out Sleep and Electric Wizard.

In all honesty, though, if you don't like growling metal really isn't for you. 90% of metal bands these days use them, so you'll have to listen to something else or get used to them.

First, what other bands do you like than the ones you listed above? Second, are you pretty much completely against screams and growls or are you just sick of the generic **** that gets pumped out?

Also, you said no "weird-ass genres"... So what exactly are you looking for? Death? Technical? Thrash?

I'd second the Cynic and Maudlin of the Well votes, though they're a little "weird."
