What do you think of them? Do they allow people to look cool and run around whilst singing? Or do they make people look like douches? Maybe there are some who can make it work and some not.

Yes. Chest hair = automatic awesome. Even if you're a woman.

They allow freedom of the stage, some singers make themselves look like tits, but wouldn't they be doing the same with a wired mic? They would just be making fools of themselves in a more confined space & causing the sound engineer problems.

Douche? Nope.
On the topic of whiney singers.

But not Robb Flynn, he has epic vocal chords (they're made from barbed wire and gaffer tape).

it just gives them a bit more freedom. Some people just look like douches. What sort of microphone they are using doesn't really have any effect on that.
You're using UG classic, congratulations.
You should be using UG classic.

A singer can make himself look like a twat, his choice in hardware really has no baring on the equation.

Wired mics can add a new element to the performance, a la Mars Volta and Taking Back Sunday.

I will stand by all this drinking if it helps me through these days,
It takes a long time just to get this all straight.

If you use a lavaliere mic or whatever it is then that would be stupid. That what I imagined. Real dynamic mics aren't gay or douche at all...

edit: Dammit... I hit edit and as I did I saw that I got beat by stoopd below. Wired mics are cool if you windmill it like Roger...
There be no shelter here.

I just think there's a certain ascetic to the wired mic that the wireless doesn't have. At least in the context of rock music.

I said yes, but I thought you meant the eapiece ones. So no, normal wireless mics are fine.

Metal is a sub-genre of metalcore since metalcore is more popular therefore better.

You can't swing a wireless mic.

I don't know. If you're gonna totally flip out, you need a cord, because the swinging thing makes it look awesome. Example: Cedric Bixler-Zavala: (Invalid img)

EDIT: Sh*t why don't Flickr images work?

Cedric Bixler Zavala is the god of mic tricks.

25 seconds, 50 seconds, 1:10, 1:57, 2:05, 3:11 (if you would count that haha)

from 18 seconds to 45 seconds.

In short, yeah having a cordless mic can give you more freedom to move around but at the same time it can greatly hinder your performance. It just depends on how creative you can be.
