I've been looking for something to upgrade to from my first guitar. I've been looking at the LTD EX-401, Epiphone 1958 Explorer and a MIM Fender Tele (which I'd pit a humbucker in the bridge). I play alternative, Metallica, blues, classic rock, and hard rock.

I know it's a very generic response, but try both. Very different guitars even with a humbucker in the tele, both will work well with those genres if you follow through with the humbucker. Otherwise the tele may be a bit of a bugger for metal depending on the genre, but overall it should work if you can EQ well.

But, if you want a HH tele that can play rock, metal, blues, etc.;

Eh, I was mainly interested in an SH Tele since I love the sound of clean single coils.

This THIS is perfect;

Not really. It's oposite of what I want, which is single coil in the neck, and humbucker in the bridge. I shouldve specified.

Oh, and I think I've made up my mind. I saw a nice Peavey explorer for $300 at the local store, so I think I'll get that, then a Tele.

Ah, other way. My bad. I didn't pay attention.

Good deal on the explorer. Will you do a NGD?

If/when I get it, I will. I might be able to afford it sometime around the middle of next month, unless I can get my dad to pay for a third of it and let me pay him back.

Yeah, it looks like this.

Except it's darker colored (and nicer looking) in person.

A rather big contrast in guitars there, but I'd personally go for the tele (well a fat tele in your case as you want a humbucker) as I prefer alder wood (where most Explorers are Mahogany or Korina).
Other than the wood (which does make a large difference) the only obvious differences (this is going off the "normal" Fender Tele and Gibson Explorer specs, which are usually the same in most copies) are, that explorers have set necks, the bridge is different in both (but both "hardtail") and obviously, the shape.

Just try 'em both.

Also, 7000th post

I believe the model name for that is a Peavey Rotor. Sfaik it's the only guitar model I've seen with a commercial tie-in to a graphic novel character:

I'd go for a Tele personaly. I just love everything about them and find they give an interesting quirk to things like metal.

John 5 HS Telecaster. It's perfect for what you're talking about (Marilyn Manson + Rob Zombie + GNR [he covered Welcome to the Jungle] + Lynyrd Skynyrd + more bands he's played with/covered), it's a really versatile guitar.

That John 5 tele is sweet. You could also get a Charvel. They take Tele bodies and make HH models with FRs.
