You CAN play anything with anything....but some guitars sound right for some things, and not for others. Single coils sound retarded for metal, though those who are apeshit about harpsichord probably beg to differ.

The best option in the price range by far. Warmoth guitars are usually closer to 900$ for something worthwhile.

Ibanez 1550M - $1,000

I've heard sketchy things about the pickups the 1550M uses. If you think about getting this guitar, you might want to think about getting different pickups in it, as well.

This.

Can get one for $300-$700 (used, obviously), and they absolutely rock.

If you want to get really technical about it..

1. Grab sticks.
2. Bang sticks on drums.

^how to play drums.

True but the fact that the 550 is going to be used evens the quality out in a way and the LFR on the Dk2m's are amazing.

Yet another vote for the Jackson DK2M. It really seems to fit what you're looking for. I've played it multiple times and found it to be a very decent instrument.... gotta love that neck.

Not at all?

Who says he's going with a new guitar anyway

Back on topic, since you don't like Ibanezes, the DK2M seems to be a good choice for you. If you had the money, I'd go with the EBMM Silhouette (or even better, a JP6 ) over anything posted so far, but it will certainly cost a lot more than the Jackson.
