After receiving birthday money 2 days ago, and having been saving money for a while, I want to buy a marshall amp, but have no idea which one :/
I'd like a zeppelin-like sound, if that helps

Used Traynor Bassmaster from the 70s! Best poor mans marshall there is. Can't go wrong. They're pretty cheap too.

you're going to need much more than a Marshall to get a Zeppelin sound. You'll need the Marshall, the 4x12 of G12H30s, and a set of PAFs with the right electronics harness in a les paul, wired to '50s specs, to get a convincing Zeppelin sound.

I recently saw 'Kashmir,' a pretty well known Zeppelin cover band. They had a good Page tone, not a great one though. He was running a JCM900, I think he had it attenuated so he could run it hot, hot, hot. But that's just goes to show it can be done with a modern Marshall like a 900, you just have to crank it.

Also like 311 said, I'm assuming were talking about passable tones, not nailing Page's tone. If you want to nail Page's tone then break out the check book you're in for a long ride.

You know, the Marshalls that can get to Zeppelin sounds are 1) extremely loud, 2) expensive

I'd suggest a smaller tube amp that would suit your LP, maybe wait for the Marshall Class 5 or get the Blackstar HT-5 everyone on UG brags about

you do know they make a volume button for the loudness right? i know what your saying though, tube's need to be cranked..

get a bugera 1990, it's a copy of a marshall jcm 900 with a bit of a twist, very good though, sound's exactly like it, only $550 with cab from guitar center, and it will get you the zepplin sound easy!

There's no MV on the plexi, nor is there a gain...

Ceriatone 18 watter...

only problem is that the JCM900 sounded absolutely nothing like Jimmy Page's Marshall, nor will a cheap clone of a JCM900.

tell us how much you have saved, but i'd suggest the Vintage Modern. it's the closest i've seen a new marshall come, besides the 1959slp

you listed a lot of solid state stuff there man, you wont be getting page tone without an all valve amp. i agree with the Rockerverb though. that thing nails the marshall tone better than a lot of marshalls

The Vetta and Flextone are modellers, they were built to sound like tubes and they do a good job at it

rockerverbs are far darker than vintage marshalls, imo

I disagree. I don't think the Rockerverb sounds anything like a vintage Marshall.

it does if you set it right. the Rockerverb 50 does it better than the 100

EDIT: wait sorry, im thinking of the wrong amp. i meant the Rocker 30

2 out of 14 is 'a lot'?

Look, I'm just trying to help the guy out. I spent at least 15 minutes trolling craigslist for the guy (assuming it is a guy) to find some amps that might work. I didn't say they were perfect and I don't need a pat on the back so give me some slack. I tried to find a variety of things because he didn't provide a budget. The Flextone and the Vetta are very good modeling amps so I don't see why they can't be included. If I had to guess I would say the TS is rather young and new to buying amps so a $500 Flextone may be perfect for him.

Again, based on his OP - I seriously doubt he is out to nail Page tone.

yeah sorry, i only gave a quick scan through a few of those Traynors and thought there were more SS amps than you actually listed there lol

ceriatone 18 watter, it was intended to replicate the amp he used, and it comes just about as close as it gets without being the real deal.
#25
I think you should go for the Marshall JCM2000 Dsl100 head and cabinet. It goes for 1300 at guitar center. But when I went to my local one it cost only 1150 and if you negotiate you can probbabely get it down to 1000. Go on Youtube and watch some vids on it. It sounds pretty good for Led Zep
#26
I vote for the Ceriatone 18 watter or the plexi clone if you don't mind killing all small animals near your amp.

Lol wut? It's a clone of an old Marshall 18 watt combo. It had nothing to do with modeling Jimmy Page's sound.

Not to mention the 18 watter sounds more like a JTM45 than plexi.

Yea, it's still a good sound though, just not as much for Zep. I personally prefer the JTM45 clones I've played to both Plexi clones and authentic Plexis I've played. The JTM45 is IMO the best amp Marshall ever made. It's got just the right amount of aggresiveness.
