I would use alternate or economy, unless the riff is meant to be played with the heaviness that comes from all down strokes.

It's pretty heavy, but for some reasons on the original recording you can barely hear the low E string while when I play it has a very high volume.

Are you muting it? Or they may have cut the lower guitar frequencies in the mix to stop it muddying up the bass.

Yes I am, but palm muted notes still have a high volume. Could be my amp settings.
