Hello UG !

Today I made to most amazing deal of my life, I bought a 1997 MiJ Ibanez RG548 NTM for only € 350.

For those who don't know the RG548, it's a pretty rare Ibanez guitar, only being produced for 3 years and only been available in Europe and Asia.

Like the RG550 it has an Original Edge tremelo and V8/S1/V7 pickup configuration ( which only sucks in basswood bodied guitars IMO).

But what sets it apart is the Ash body and the wizard II neck, but mainly the Ash body.

It still looks pretty good for a 12 year old guitar, it has its battle scars and dings , but the frets are still in superb shape and it plays like a dream.

Anyway, enough chitchat, here comes the porn!

My 2 faithful Ibby's waiting for their new brother to arrive

Here he is !

One happy family

Another shot of the 2 Japanese guitars.

So , whatcha think about it?

I just restrung it with a fresh pair of 10-52 Dean Markley strings and it sounds amazing, I think that the Edge trem is a lot more easier to set up then the Edge Pro.

Or I just sucked in setting up trems back in 2005 when I had a RG1570 with an Edge pro :p

i actually prefer the edge pro in terms of setup and string changes (you don`t have to cut the ball ends off)

Yeah, but I stringed it in reverse, the ball-ends are on the headstock side.

Thx guys, and it surely does play like a dream.

I did notice the springs in the back resonating when I palmmuted, so I cut up a pair of white sport socks and put them under and above the springs , problem solved!

It's a great tip for anyone using a floyd and having the same problem.

Deinitely a good idea, I still need to do that with my RG1527. Or maybe have it blocked, I'm not sure...

Thanks guys, I just realised that the action was really up high compared to my RGA121, so that has been changed also :p

Everything has been going so easy with this guitar, Japanese built Ibanez guitars truly are great pieces of craftsmanship. :p

How does it sound in comparison to a basswood RG? I'm planning on getting a FR1620 as my next guitar and that also has an ash body.
#25
I really don't like Ibanez guitars. Not that I think they are bag guitars, it's just not my type.

When I saw yours I thought "**** they are beautiful guitars !".

Peace
#26
Yeah , my guitars are all guys, else my girlfriend would get jealous when I'm touching other girls. :p

And I find Ash to sound less muddy the Basswood with the stock ibby pickups, and not so trebly as people warmed me. My lows are more defined tho.

Nice! I know you said you setup the guitar after you changed the strings, but I just gotta make sure; when you set the trem angle, did you put the top edge of the trem level with the body, or the knife edge? The Edge has an angled baseplate and shouldnt be parallel with the body like it is in your pics, the knife edges you can see in the side of it should be though.
#28
The knife edges are parallel to the body, no problem there
The top of the base plate is angled , but the bottom is actually parallel to the knife edges, and that way it's easy to set up the trem.

#29
Yeah, I know. My S540 has an Original Edge too. Pain in the ass though because the body is rounded so you need to compare it to the top of the trem post.
#30
Lol yeah, I bet it's a bit harder then. ^^
