I'm looking for an acoustic around a max of 300. Dreadnought good choice?

i have an epiphone masterbilt DR-500ME and it's great, the best choice i've ever done. So i guess lower end ones are nice too.

^Meh. There's a sizable difference between Masterbilts and the other acoustics. Epiphones aren't BAD per se, but I think there is better.

Takamine, Seagull (if you're willing to shell out $15 extra), Washburn, Yamaha.

I've played Taks and Seagulls head to head with an Epiphone and the Tak and Seagull sounded more pleasant to my ears. Now, that isn't to say that you won't like Epiphone acoustics, I'm merely stating my opinion.

To be more specific about what I found better, I felt like the tone on the Seagull and Tak were more "free" than the Epi. Personally I think your best bet is to go try a few out head to head and see what you like best.

the yamaha fg730s and the seagull s6 kick all the cheaper epiphones to the curb in sound and built quality.
