A rod extending between x = 0 and x = 14:0 cm has uniform cross-sectional area
A = 9:00 cm2. It is made from a continuously changing alloy of metals so that
along its length its density changes steadily from 2:70 g cm^-3 to 19:3 g cm^-3. (a)
Identify the constants B and C required in the expression p = B + Cx to describe
the variable density.

p(0cm) = 2.7 = B+C*0
p(14cm) = 19.3 = B+C*14

solve the system of equations

B = 2.7
C = (19.3-2.7)/14 = 1.1857

density(x) = 2.7g/cm^3 + x*1.1857g/cm^4

It's either basic a-level or gcse applied maths. Far too easy to even be first year undergrad.
