Hey guys, i'm starting my own band, and i need to find a professional rig for gig's and such.
I love the clean tones that my Ibanez SZ320 gets, but i find my favourite distortion type tones are largely from single coil guitars, or at least a combination of single coils and humbuckers. I'm something of a tonehound, especially when it comes to disortion/heavy type of sounds. Is there something that would be an acceptable compromise? ie, single coil with good cleans and great distortion? Or should i just buy that Mesa Boogie Tremoverb i've been looking at and make do with my Ibanez?
Feel free to recommend amps and stuff as well.
Here are some of my favourite distortion tones, for idea of what i like.

Anyway, this is a fairly in-depth thread, but thanks in advance to anyone who takes the time to answer.

Either that, or install a coil-split

Cool, thanks guys, i'm exploring all those options as well as P-90's, Lace Sensors and other stuff.
Could you switch from Humbuckers to Split Coils during a song? Or would that create noise?

For as far as I know your humbuckers would need to be split-able (4 wire something... ? ) but I don't think there's gonna be much more noise then the normal singlecoil + distortion noise.

I meant more like, noise from the switching between the two, assuming your humbuckers are splittable.
Also, i've got a Monterey Strat-type guitar that i don't really use much, and i was thinking of putting some single coil pickups in that could handle a lot of gain, hoping to get a similar sound to that first band i listed, possibly when combined with a humbucker guitar (if that's what they do). Do you guys know any suitable pickups that you can think of for a high gain heavy sound?

there shouldn't be, its like changing pickups with the switch except you pull up the tone knob, which works as the switch to go from humbucker-singlecoil
