One of my friends and I have been doing some MMA together. It's not professional by any means. Just horsing around. He recently dropped me with a straight right. And the ref (my opponents brother) stopped the "fight". I don't want that to happen next time. So, whats the best way to take a punch?



p.s.
A lot of it was my fault, I threw a leg kick, and didn't keep my hands up.
He just came in and WHAP 20 seconds into the fight.
I was on the ground.

Don't get hit.

Work your combinations better and set up things like leg kicks.


Also, some people just can't take hits. Maybe you're one of them.

If you time it right, jumping and redirecting his fist into your vagina works pretty well.

I recall reading that leaning into (or with) the punch and trying to aim their fist to ceratin "hard parts" of your skeletal system is part of it.

Sadly, this is true, I'm one of them. Luckily I've had alot of training so I don't get hit too often. TS, first, learn to block. Then learn to have a block prepared at all times. Then learn to have a block prepared even when your attacking. Then kick your friends ass.

The top of your head, between your forehead and the very top of your head.

Not really lean into the punches... but you can take punches off that part fairly well and it'll probably break your opponent's hands.


Also, never lean away from punches.

they say "roll with the punches" for a reason. if you just stand rigid, you're going to get hit a LOT harder. it takes a lot of the wallop out of the punch if you roll with it.

by the way, what kind of gloves are you guys using? they've gotta be good quality otherwise getting hit with them can give you some pretty nasty abrasions.

I am not fighter, but I need all the knowledge i can get just in case.

I was trained at the legendary Fairtex, Pattaya...the aim is to expect to get hit all the time, and defened...only attack when you see an oppertunity...run circles round them, wear them out then BAM 1,2 combo in the chops...or dummy a punch so he bows down then BAM knee to the nose.

lol. Never know when you can get into a fight.


Also, a shell defense, like Tito Ortiz or Rampage, is very hard to do well in MMA. Those two are the only guys I've ever seen do that well. Unlike in boxing where you have the gloves covering alot of openings, you don't have that in MMA.


Like someone says, you train to expect every punch. If you watch some slo-mo gifs of boxers being punch, you seen them tense up their neck and jaw muscles prior to getting hit.

Roll with the punches. Turn your head in the same direction that it is being pushed by the punch, and the impact of the punch will be absorbed over a longer time frame, making it damaging to you.

Also, another thing is you gotta keep your eyes open.

Getting hit with a punch you don't see coming usually means KTFO.


Although learning to keep your eyes open is hard.

try to take it on the jaw or cheek bone...
but thats just me i got jumped and got a tooth knocked out and i was still fighting, i threw one of them into a car

This. I was doing this sort of a thing with a couple of friends, them VS me, and I was destroying them. So they decided "oh hey lets hit him that little canoe paddle thats hanging on the wall eh" So they did.

And I retaliated by kicking in his knee.

Like, brutally.

He fell to the ground crying, I thought he was faking it, so I left.

Your always gonna get hit if you fight, just try to put him down first i guess. To say turn your head and roll with it is kind of dumb, if you had time to do that why get hit in the first place.
