So my younger brothers (twins) recently turned 18. They've already had their party (which I didn't go to) and tonight I'm going out to dinner with them and the rest of my family.

I've never brought them any presents in the past for birthdays or holidays and they've never brought me anything. But seeing as there 18, I feel somewhat obliged to buy them something. Also my sister will no doubt buy presents for them and make me look like an ass if I don’t.

So my question is, what kind of presents do you buy for someone you know f*ck all about?

But I’ve been living on my own for the last few months and I spent the last 2 years that I was living at home locked in my room practicing the sh*t out of my guitar. I don’t really speak to them and I don’t know anything about them.

I know they drink quite a lot (one of them got alcohol poisoning when he was like 15) do I buy them booze? I know one of them has just started guitar, and the other is an obnoxious f*g, help me out here.

You can buy whatever guitar you want, you don't have to be at a certain skill level to buy one. This is real life, not some guitar-playing RPG where you have to unlock new guitars.

I say buy them booze.
I will stand by all this drinking if it helps me through these days,
It takes a long time just to get this all straight.

So let me get this straight...

This was your line of thought:

"Hey, he got alcohol poisoning once...maybe I should just give him some more booze. Maybe he'll build up an immunity to it or something."

Dont by them booze.... Subscription to Playboy and Penthouse will do just fine

Give one of them a set of car keys. They might think for a bit you bought him a car. In actual fact there is no car, only keys

Some relatively upmarket aftershaves? Something popular like Hugo Boss or something.
I know you think that I'm someone you can trust.
But I'm scared i'll get scared and i swear i'll try to nail you back up.

Just money, they can spend it on what-ever they like. Or if you are going to dinner with them, shout drinks.

Maybe you should, I dunno, talk to your sister first? She might not get them anything at all, you know.

Dont get them a present. Take them out somewhere cool. Get to know them.

I don't think presents are going to do anything. You sound like a dick brother.

That's a really good idea. I'll maybe I'll get them some aftershave and a bottle of Jim Beam each.

She's meeting us at the restaurant and I don’t know her phone number.
Speaking of which, my sisters turns 20 at the end of the month. I'm going to have this exact same problem with her too.

I don't go to any cool places. The only place I even "go out" to is my local pub, and it's far from cool. Plus I don't really care for them, one is a complete wanker and the other one is a metro-sexual "punk"

Yeah, fair call.
