I'm looking for an amp that has a good metal sound, and that also has a good tone for solos. I heard the Marshall Stacks were really good, but after looking at some online reviews, I'm not so sure anymore.
I'm a pretty advanced player, I think, and the solo tone is very important to me. Looking to pay about 1000$ or around there, can anyone help me out?

Do you need good cleans?

You'll be hard-pressed to find a decent Marshall for that price, even used. Consider a 5150, as well as some Bugeras.

a use mesa?

Lol. If insomniac's were called something less cool like "cock lords" or something I bet there would be significantly less people claiming to be it.

K thanks guys, but which Mesa Boogie would be the best to get?

If you want a great lead tone - Mark series. A Mark III is in your price range.

Hold on. How is anybody giving any replies without knowing what tone he wants. Name some bands you listen to and want to sound like.

Which era of Metallica?

Early Metallica - JCM800

Mid 80's - Mesa Mark III

To be honest I'm really not sure what they used during the 90's

Modern Metallica - Diezel, Mesa, Marshall, etc.

Didn't they use a Mark IIc+ in the mid 80's? The c+ is around 4000, and that's IF you can find one....

I'd look at a Single Recto, or if you're lucky a Dual Recto.
Then again, a boosted JCM800 should also do you good.

Maybe you could look at modelling amps like the Vetta and the HD147?

Metallica = Mesa Boogie Mark IV
I've bought, sold, and traded more gear than I care to admit.

I think a Mark III would probably work good.

You could also get a JCM 800 used for around 1000 easy, but I would go with a Mark series for more versatility for the heavier tones/a better lead tone.

right Metallica is a given. Personally I like to pretend the bus exploded and killed them all in '86.

HD 147 while were riding the line 6 train Ampeg vh 140c s are good. I LOVE my 6505. Mesa Mark series. The thing with a 6505 or XXX is that it really depends on your guitar tone. trebly pickups are good for the 6505 and vice versa. Mesa F-50, DC30 Randall RM series (cheap RM with a trillion salvation mods) I've seen several TRiamps go for a bit under a grand if you deal shop. And you most definetely can get a JCM800 for under a grand.
