Try out the EB beefy slinkies, unless you somehow hate EB strings. If ya like them, then go with the titanium coated ones.

D'Addario is my personal choice. i've only broken one (low E) and it was because i was long overdue for a string change (6+ months). they're cheap too, like most strings without any fancy coatings or anything ($5).
i used to be a mod, then i took an arrow in the knee.

I'm a D'Addario guy. The EXP strings are way better than Elixirs as far as feel goes for me and last just as long, if not longer. Plus the coating doesn't start to peel off on the EXPs like Elixirs do.

What ever you do, DO NOT GET ****ING ERNIE BALLS. They are pieces of sh!t. After a week they almost get grip to them and it feels like you are slicing your fingers. I personally prefer D'addario .11-54, and GHS .11-.50

that is why im not going for EB's.

Right now my guitar has 10's and you need to adjust the intonation when going for a higher gauge right?
and 11's are good for playing melodic metal rite?

I don't know about the intonation thing, my SG does seem a little wierd with 12's now, but my RG2EX1 accepted the .11s fine

Also, it doesn't matter what genre you play

What tuning are you in though? Drop C#/C go for some .11s. Drop B/C Standard C#standard etc. go for some .12-.54 D'addarios (what I use for ALL tunings.

At first it'll seem kinda hard to bend, but give it a week and you are good.

then i would go with bigger than 11s. i use 11s in standard. they feel kind of sloppy depending on scale length and neck angle. i would use at least 12s, probably higher.

my store has both GHS boomers an DR, the DR's are much cheaper tho.

And do you have to adjust the intonation when changing string gauges?

You may need to adjust the truss rod due to added tension, but I wouldn't think the intonation would be off.

Make a set of heavy bottoms out of two packs of cleartones? Not really the cheap way to go but it would work. Also since you are downtuning, the change in tension isn't as dramatic as some may think so maybe you wouldn't need to.

+1 on the boomers tho as well, I used to get them for under $4 a pack at walmart.

Get .11's made from barbed wire from the gates of hell that were dipped in the boiled blood of lambs and 6 month old infants. Those strings are br00talz.

On a more serious note, I would suggest DR over GHS boomers. I personally like Ernie Balls and they've never failed me before. I prefer them over DR's and D'addarios that I used to string my guitar with.

If you're tuning to Drop C, then I'd suggest going with .12's (if you want the .11's tension). Then again, you could always buy a lot of strings and find out what's best FOR YOU once and for all.

I agree entirely. They may be used by tons of famous guitarists as it says on the back, but don't forget these guys are fitting a new set every single day.

They're great strings if you change very frequently, but the longevity of them is pathetic compared to D'addario. Maybe the nickel they use is just more easily corroded by certain skin types?

Did somebody say to use barbed wire?

This is why I don't use a wound G anymore; if you're curious, from bending the wound g the wrap unraveled and formed those barbs.
