Ok lets get this straight. We are going to discuss the greatest amps out on the market, tubes, hybrids, solid states you name it. Either ask a question and have som1 answer it or ask for peoples input on certain amps. You should also argue/debate over which amps are good and why, for example, if someone is bragging about a Line 6 15w they have, explain to them why they should get a new amp or keep it.

Have fun, be nice, and let the debate begin!!!

Yep. No one will kindly and/or politely discuss amps; too many fanboys.

i will politely say that the Fender Twin Reverb is the finest clean sound ever, and the original marshall plexis are the best dirty amps ever.

vypyrs, cubes etc are good SS and Valvetronix are great hybrids.

flamefest me also thinks.

this months new members seem to be rather unajourned by the unspoken rules of the forum, i.e. every amp sucks in someones opinon, etc.

fair enough. The roland jazz chorus has some great SS cleans, but its distortion isnt so great. ive always thought 6L6 cleans were better than EL84/34s

If I said I were saving up for the best amp I could ever buy, what would people suggest. Considering I like a very heavy lead tone, and an almost sparkly clean tone?

Ive been thinking along the lines of Mesa Boogie Mark IV and Diezel VH4?

This will be closed soon.

But personally I think there's nothing like the "Best Amp Ever" because most of the sound is personal preference. So one likes Plexis another one Rockerverbs, another one loves Dual-Recs and so on. Sure, there are amps which are hated buy the majority of people here, but it doesn't mean that you're not allowed not to like it 4( though I wouldn't recommend a Spider to anyone and that's the point where I am biased ).

hatred of spiders and MGs isnt really 'biased' because we dont work for line6 or marshall. we've just come to hate digital distortion and crushing overdrive.!!.

Ofcourse there will never be an amp which is 'the best' but tbh, I would class everything from Dual Recs, to JCMs to the Thunderverbs and the Plexis as being 'the best'. Im not terribly picky.

If I don't think its that great, doesn't mean that people listening to me play or my recordings will think the same. I just love all tones haha
#16
i think the 'best' amps would be something you GAS for eventhough you know for a fact it wouldnt work for you, its brilliance in one genre overwhelms common sense.

for me:

Mesa/Boogie triple rec
Marshall 1959 plexi
fender twin reverb
fender blues deluxe
fender deville
fender hotrod deluxe
marshall TSL 100
divided by 13 (boutique, no good to me at all)

etc. thats my 2 cents.

Colossal gain award is probably going to any mesa with cascading gain and rectification.
For the super sparkly clean its probably fender twin reverb.
For overall versatility and balls out awesomeness id have to say the JCM800

this thread would be better as a poll, a poll of the most renound amps in history.

then we'd get an idea of what UG thinks is the best amp of all time, rather than a mess of flaming and disagreement.

Well I know one guy who loves his MG and Spider III to death, no joke.

For me ATM these amps cause GAS:
- Marshall JMPs and Plexis
- Blackstar Series One
- Diamond Decada
- Mesa Dual Rectifiers and Mark IVs
- Orange Rockerverb

I actually really like some old SS amps.
Especially the Marshall Lead ones, I saw a 2x12 Marshall Lead 30 go on ebay for like 40 quid, and it was 100% original and in mint condition, I was GAS'ing so hard.

The metal–oxide–semiconductor field-effect transistor (MOSFET, MOS-FET, or MOS FET) is a device used to amplify or switch electronic signals. The basic principle of the device was first proposed by Julius Edgar Lilienfeld in 1925. The MOSFET includes a channel of n-type or p-type semiconductor material (see article on semiconductor devices), and is accordingly called an NMOSFET or a PMOSFET (also commonly nMOS, pMOS). It is by far the most common transistor in both digital and analog circuits, though the bipolar junction transistor was at one time much more common.
Wikipedia FTW.
