have you ever played a guitar suited to one style and one style only through a setup that is out of its world? i remember i plugged a Gibson BBKing Lucille into an A/B box and into a Mesa/Boogie stilletto and a roadster dual recto. it actually sounded pretty good, reguardless of the obvious mismatch of blues and ultra hi-gain.

wuz et an EMM-GEEE?

then it aint no rawknrawl! ... lol.

sounds like funtimes. another weird combination i made...a Luna guitar (cheapest in the store) and a two rock custom reverb signature (most expensive amp in store).

i also tried a £6000 private stock PRS belonging to the owner (hes a friend) and a spider III 15w to see if epic USA made toans can possibly ring through a pile of crap with knobs (it cant)

It was this guys at my churchs old 70s stack, he had a electric cello, and he also had an electric mandolin and banjo, but the cello sounded the coolest through the marshall.

Amen to that. More people need to use single coils for heavy music.

I run a semi-hollow into a vintage-style amp, yet I play in an experimental post-hardcore band. Granted, pedals are key to my sound, but people always get confused when they see my guitar.

its crazy...especially if both guitarists are using single coil guitars....in this case they were both using telecasters

I guess you're entitled to your opinion though.

My next guitar is going to be a Tele even though what I play is pretty heavy.

Boss DS-1 boosting my Mesa for some fuzzy goodness; it seriously sounds really cool.

Otherwise I've played a Godin Kingpin while plugged into a Mesa Stiletto, and it sounded really cool.

Having really low output pickups going into a really really high gain amp gets an incredibly natural and organic sounding distortion

I was playing a ESP ec1000 deluxe through a fender tube, lol it sounded weird, but I kinda lokied it. Because of the duncans, I was still able to get some distortion, but it was crazy the difference.

owners of guitar stores are the subject of the cruelest critisisms on UG. the kind who try to unload a spider III on you while you wait to try a dual recto.

anyway, on the subject of single coils for heavy stuff, i use a cheap tele copy for drop tunings ,because i cba to tune down my FR all the time.

im sorry but two hours on an amp with active EQ is not enough time to make an end all statement like that. And as far as it having too much gain its called rolling back the gain knob.
I traded in my Real Books for Robbins and Cotran Pathology Textbooks

most peaveys have moe gain that anyone can use, you just have to know how to set up good sound.

spend atleast a couple of days working an amps EQ over to find the sweet spots i nthe ranges, and use evry thinkable combination.
