What sort of metal?

I've always found tubescreamers best for blues and rock. Boss OD-3 is ok for metal, but quite similar to the tubescreamer I find. I always feel that Amp Distortion is the best for metal

I think he wants an od to boost his distortion, not to use it as a standalone distortion

I doubt that you need an OD pedal for your amp... try working with the EQ some more.
