As some of you may know, I just recently posted a thread asking about high end amp modeling software, which I would have had to pirate because that sh1t's expensive. Someone then told me about free VST plugins, and since I generally don't like pirating software because of difficulty/illegality, I thought I'd try those first. So, what are some good, free, amp and effect modeling VST plugins?

Ironic since I found pirating easier than legally...
Anyways, you can try here first: http://freevst.webs.com/

That's funny, because when I said I would pirate it, everybody got on my case for it.

check out www.acmebargig.com - amazing amp sims - you'll need an impulse loader for the cabs - Lepou has some great ones including amps too: http://lepouplugins.blogspot.com/

also I recommend WWW.GUITARAMPMODELING.COM for everything known and Agreed's VST list is really good too: http://geareview.wordpress.com/freeware-windows-vsts-master-list/
Now running an Eleven Rack with Pro Tools 10.3.3 - it's amazing and I'm having ball with it - worth every penny. PT 10 is tops IMO and the Eleven Rack is a work of art!

well thats because its illegal. anyone promoting illegal downloading of software on UG usually gets warned or banned. just a fyi.

as for free VSTs, i like these. not like super top of the line or anything, but they are pretty nice and i like them. completly free and easy to use.

I like kvraudio.com - you can do a search on free plugs (and commercial), + you can subscribe to their monthly 'free plugins' email

I don't really see how you can find downloading pirate software hard, all you have to do is clickl a button, but there are some very good free vsts. Like GisleAune said, Acmebargig make some pretty good stuff and the Nick Crow 7170 amp is very good. I have been using the 7170 more than guitar rig 3 for a while now.

There's a free download of Peavey Revalver, its the full thing except for a funny hissing noise and the inability to save programs. The amp sims are awesome, pedals are decent.
Ibanez Saber Series Owner!

Don't jump on the bandwagon, Line 6 Spider III's Aren't that bad!
