Oh, I remember doing something similar for year 8 music. This was 8 years ago, so I can't really remember, but I seem to recall wikipedia being pretty useful.

Edit: OK, just noticed you said no wikipedia, so I'd just recommend general googling. There are probably a lot of sites with relevant information.

Musical instruments tend to have vague beginnings......As admirable it is that you picked the guitar, you probably shoulda picked something easy and recent. For example, you could talk about Mario. He was given a mustache to make his nose more visible, and a hat because hair would have been taken too much room. He was also given suspenders because it was more visible than having a shirt and pants. Since he was a guy with suspenders and a hat, he was dubbed a plumber, and with such a snazzy mustache he could only be Italian, and everyone knows that Mario is a great Italian name.

JSTOR, LexusNexus, and other academic search engines are pretty good. But you need a license to use them (usually through a university). Google Scholar is probably the best free academic search engine but it is no where near as good as the licensed ones.
Stop whining and learn your theory!

I seem to remember hearing that he was just called 'Jump Man' in japan and that the day of the unveiling of the game in america the japanese guy who made the game talked with the owner of the hotel he was staying in and his name was Mario. So the game creator renamed the character Mario. I could be wrong...

Has it's roots in the lute.

Evolved as the guitar in Western Europe. Popular amongst the folk musicians of spain.

Was taken to America. Learnt by Black blues musicians.

Used by Jazz musicians in Bigbands. Wasn't loud enough. First pick ups used.

First solid body guitars were hawaiian guitars. These were frying pan models built by varying companies (e.g. Rickenbacker).

First solid body electric guitar was the Fender Telecaster in 1950. Les Paul followed in 1952.

Rock followed -

History of guitar in a nut shell. Tbh, it's a bit crap, but it's what I could do at short notice.

Don't forget that big band guitarists tried steel guitars before someone tried pickups and amplifiers.
