Septatonic is just a really weird way to refer to a diatonic scale, in most cases.

Literally, it means any scale with seven tones.

Yeah I dunno where you got that from, I don't think anyone uses that term, although I suppose a 7 note scale doesn't have to be diatonic...

The proper term for a seven-tone scale is heptatonic.

Diatonic scales are a subset of heptatonic scales, in which there are only whole and half tones, and the half tones are maximally spaced.
