Does saying "bucks" instead of dollars make it sound more affordable?

#1
If you see some say its only 20 bucks man, and someone else say 20 dollars, their is a difference in the terms of the way its taken by the speaker.

Maybe shagging Mark Knopfler, but that's about it.

*sigh* 09'ers.

There's nothing against the rules about this thread. It's a legitimate discussion, there's nothing to report.

On topic: Yes, it does make it sound cheaper.

The word 'only' in the bolded part makes it seem like less, not the 'bucks'.

To some people it would be.

Also, TS, is your username Sikth without the 't'?

i think he means to say "It's only 20 bucks man" sounds like less money than "It's only 20 dollars man"

20 bucks sounds much more casual, but not necessarily more affordable.

I have no opinion on this matter.

You don't count. When I say "*sigh* 09'ers", I'm meaning "*sigh* n00bs".

And I probably should be an 09'er since my first post was in January this year.

Uh, to talk about if saying bucks instead of dollars makes something sound cheaper? Geeze, learn to read.

Linguistic discussion regarding the way meaning changes in the context of the more formal "dollars" versus the informal "bucks."

If I can make it sound like a graduate thesis without it being a joke, it's legit.

... to me eat sounds cheaper.. but if people used "doll's" as a shorter way of saying dollars.. I'd say doll's is the same as bucks..

and 20p sounds cheaper than 20pence..

therefore the shorter the word, the less amount of money it sounds like

Yes I did, I didn't need to wiki it to know it's cultural context. I linked to support my point.

Assuming someone from one country is ignorant to others in the world solely because of their nationality is an insulting form of ignorance in itself.
