Alright guys.

Right now I'm saving for my ultimate goal of a Jackson WR1 USA Warrior in trans-black. After which I'll put in a Dimarzio X2n in the bridge and a Dimarzio Air Norton in the neck.

After that I'll be saving for what I hope will be my "dream" amp so to speak.

I've done extensive research and a lot of paths have led me to Engl. I was thinking about saving for the Savage.

Then again I've listened to the Marshall Kerry King signature and it sounds great imo. It's got a great agressive attack, full of gain and all that nasty metal sound. However, I hear it's not too versatile.

In terms of versatility, I won't be playing straight up jazz or blues. I mainly play heavy metal. However, I'd like the amp to be just versatile enough to get a nice tone for if I ever decide to write a metal ballad (ex: Fade to Black, A Tout le Monde, etc.) or any of those types of metal songs.

My favorite bands include but are not limited to:

Death, Trivium, Slayer, Annihilator, Sepultura, Children of Bodom, Cynic, Sylosis, In Flames, John Petrucci, ACDC, Megadeth, Metallica, Pantera, Death, Lamb of God, Machine Head, Martyr, Judas Priest, Paul Gilbert, Joe Satriani, Dream Theater, etc etc.

Can someone help shed some light here?

Uhh just to trim the fat on the favorite artists, my INFLUENCES (or what I think are my influences) tend to consist of: Death, Slayer, Megadeth, Trivium, Sepultura, Metallica, Annihilator, and Judas Priest

and also I tend to come up things slightly reminiscent of guys like John Petrucci or Paul Gilbert. Ever so slightly.

So take that over the Engl?

I think it would be a nice deal cheaper as well. Plus that built-in noisegate is looking really appealing to me right now.

hmmm

nobody has said anything about the Engl yet...

Also try to keep in mind that the pups in my guitar will probably be hot as it is. Idk if that'll effect anything too much.

I don't think it was necessary to make another thread for this, you've made a lot of "vs." threads in a short time span. People HAVE commented on the ENGL, just not in this thread.

I'm also pretty sure a quick searchbar would come up with a couple of useful threads, such as the ENGL Amp owners thread and the Randall, and Marshall threads.

Just to name a few

Used the searchbar. Didn't find any threads comparing these two. The searchbar was the FIRST thing I used.

And yeah I deleted the other thread so I don't have two vs. threads on the first page. Save bandwidth you know.

I asked about the Marshall in the last thread but I couldn't get a comparison between the Engl and the Marshall specifically so I figured the best way to give it attention is make a thread about it.

It's just comparison between my options bro. That's all.

I say the Kerry King one. I watched this interview about his head and he was saying how he could buy one of his heads at a store and bring it to a slayer show and it would play fine with no pedals or anything
It sounds like a pretty solid amp.

Savage, no question.

The KK is a good amp, but it's not even in the same class as the Savage

Really?

How so? Does it really outclass the KK signature?

A kitten dies everytime someone buys an amp with that reasoning. Seriously, his name is on it and he gets a ton of cash to promote it.

This is true.

But just to play devil's advocate, I've heard the amp myself and it sounds f'ing NASTY (in a good way).

I HAVEN'T heard the Engl in person though which is why I'd like to get a little more input on this comparison.

There's a ton of Savage clips on that site I linked you before, as well as youtube. If you can't try one yourself, hearing it there would be your best bet. Both are quality amps, just different.

What? I've heard the amp.....I'm not saying it's good cuz it's a signature. Personally I try to stay away from Sig. stuff. I got the KKV though cuz it has such a fast neck and it feels really comfortable

Hard to explain really, they are just voiced differently. Marshall voicing vs. ENGL voicing.

I remember hearing the Krankenstein and while it was very nice and gain heavy, it sounded a little too muddy for me considering what else is in that price range.

How the hell did you see a Krank Revolution for under 1k? lol. Just looked now and from the looks of it they go around 1500 USD new (I think if google serves me right).

But yeah I saw on musiciansfriend they do make a combo amp version of the Krank Revolution.

EDIT:

Mind explaining what you mean by voicing?

Will check out but let's try to generally compare the Marshall and the Engl.

These are the two amp heads I'm really considering actually purchasing and need a bit more insight to help my decision.

Both really have their fine points and I can't really find any major flaws in either.

if you want extreme versatility go with the ENGL
better High gain = ENGL
better British Crunch = Marshall

Ok gotcha

Now this is where this question comes in.

I listed what my favorite artists and influences were.

I generally am a huge fan of thrash and death metal.

Let's get some recommendations in here. Not saying that will completely sway me but I'd like to know what you guys think.
